Makolaa is a dedicated, multi-vendor e-commerce marketplace, showcasing products made exclusively from verified small Black-owned businesses and independent sellers worldwide. Our platform is a one-stop destination, allowing consumers to shop directly from small Black-owned businesses and Black creatives from across the globe.
The origin of the name 'Makola' (which many are familiar with as meaning "market") is theorized to come from the Yoruba adage "Omo ko ola wole" meaning, "The child brings wealth home." This phrase is referred to the practice of parents who would send a child out to start selling in the market, with the prayer for them to have success and bring in a good day's earning upon their return.
The black community globally are the #1 consumers, yet own the least amount of wealth compared to other ethnic counterparts. With the Makolaa enterprise - our marketplace equipping Black-owned businesses with additional revenue streams, and our resource hub providing entrepreneurs with the tools to sustain these businesses - our aim is to embolden members of this community 'to bring the wealth home' and be strengthened in all manners of cultural and communal affluence.
